Designing empathy into healthcare technology
Overview
Pulse is a remote patient monitoring platform. The brief was deceptively simple: make it easier for patients to track their health. But the real challenge was designing for anxiety, uncertainty, and vulnerable users.
The Challenge
Healthcare apps often feel clinical and cold. Patients with chronic conditions were abandoning the app because it made them feel like a number, not a person. Accessibility was an afterthought across the board.
The Solution
Built the entire product around emotional design principles. Every interaction was designed to reduce anxiety and build confidence. Created a WCAG 2.1 AA compliant design system with healthcare-specific components.
